Hi Everyone! I just became a member of the AH&LA and I'm very excited and already learning a lot of things.

I recently applied for my first official management position as a Front Office Manager of a 120Rm Hampton inn & Suites. Its currently seeing a drop in scores overall and they believe they really need to work on teamwork and motivation for the front desk staff. I have already gone through the first interview. And I'm going to have a Second Interview next week, I am competing against several candidate all of which have already been managers. Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me to help prepare myself for the next interview.

Also I am a little worried about taking my first management position with a hotel who is currently going downhill (though I know if I can help bring it up it will help my career a lot.

Questions comments? thank you! You all rock!

Hi there, I'm new here too. My husband and I purchased a small motel, not having experience with motels. The prior owners had a bad reputation for being rude and mean, and eventually a lot of guests refused to come back. When we took over, I made it clear everywhere that we are new owners! That said, I am always happy, friendly, and treat the guest like they are extra special and that I'm really happy to share my property with them. Try to get to know everything you can about the Hampton Inn & Suites, history, interesting tidbits and show your interviewer that you are excited to welcome and share with their guests.
Good luck!
Tracy
